Betty Louise McCollum was born July 12, 1954 in St. Paul, Minnesota.  She served on the St. Paul City Council for three terms. S he then won an upset victory over longtime State Representative Rich O'Conner and served four terms in the State House. She was elected to Congress in 2000.
